Born in Newark, N.J. to the late Anthony “Googie” and Jane Galasso, Richard lived in Bloomfield, N.J. before settling in Cedar Grove. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy onboard the USS Thaddeus Parker (DE369) where he exemplified the highest standards of duty, integrity, and sacrifice to his country before honorably being discharged. Prior to his retirement, he was a longtime Carpenter with Local Union #1342 in Newark, N.J. Upon his retirement, which he embraced with enthusiasm, he was often seen riding his bicycle and indulging in his love for fishing. Richard also had a passion for creating beautiful bird houses that brought joy to both the avian world and those who admired his lovely designs. When he wasn’t busy crafting bird houses, Richard found his greatest happiness spending time with his adored grandkids and beloved family. They shared countless laughter-filled moments down the Jersey Shore in Seaside Park, creating cherished memories that will forever be held close to their hearts. As a snowbird, he loved traveling to Marco Island, Florida basking in it's serene beauty and embracing island life. A devout Catholic, he was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Church where he attended Mass regularly.

Predeceased by his parents and his sister, Suzanne Galasso, he is survived by his devoted longtime companion, who shared his joys, Fran Monarqe; loving children, Gary Galasso and his wife, Rosemarie and Karen Day and her husband, Eddie; beloved grandchildren, Gary Galasso and his wife, Amanda, Nicholas Galasso and his wife, Maddie, Alexandra Drury and her husband, Kyle, and Gabriella Day; precious great-grandchildren, Arianna, Conrad, Gemma and two more great-grandchildren on their way; and dear brother, Jimmy Galasso and his wife, Patricia.
