Born in Newark, N.J., and raised in Oceanport, N.J., Marie started her family in Newark before settling in Cedar Grove. She also spent time in Myrtle Beach, SC shortly after her retirement. She was a cosmetologist by trade, and owned her own salon, Shear Magic Hair Design in Belleville, N.J., for several years.
Marie was known for her quick wit and sharp tongue (she could make a sailor blush at times!). She loved a spirited debate and anyone who knew her understood that once the debate started it was a matter of time before she made you tap out!
A fierce competitor, Marie loved to play cards and spoons with money on the table. Her grandchildren lost many dimes and quarters to “Grandma” and “Nanny.” She also loved Atlantic City – and had an affinity for slot machines and always seemed to come home with more money than what she left with. Generous to a fault, she would spend her winnings on her grandchildren.
Marie was the quintessential Italian mother – the matriarch of the Barone family whose life revolved around the family unit. Cooking and baking were her specialty and she passed down many recipes to be enjoyed by future generations. None of it can exactly be replicated as she never followed her own recipes... she just knew.
Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose strength, resilience and love will be deeply missed.
Predeceased by her son, Dominick Barone, Marie is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Dominick; loving children, John Barone, and his wife, Amy, Donna Benelli, and her husband, Kenny, and Cheri DiPrenda, and her husband, Rodney; and cherished grandchildren, Ashley, Alexandria, Amber, and Johnny Barone Jr.., Dominick, Rodney, and Danny DiPrenda.
