Obituary for Lawrence G. Hemmerich

Lawrence G. Hemmerich, 83 of Cedar Grove, N.J. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.

Born in Manhattan, N.Y. to Leo and Catherine (nee Dooley) Hemmerich, he was raised in the Hell’s Kitchen section of New York City and in his later life he would move to Little Ferry, N.J. before settling in Cedar Grove. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army National Guard where he achieved the rank of Spec 4. Larry was a conveyor mechanic and the owner/operator of CMR, Inc. prior to his retirement. He was a former member of the C.G. Elks and Belleville Masons and was an avid motorcycle enthusiast.

Pre-deceased by his parents and siblings, Robert, Leo, James, and Jeanette, he is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Victoria A. Hemmerich; beloved children, James L. Hemmerich and his wife, Cheryl, Theresa Newton and her husband, Bruce and Richard Hemmerich and his wife, Antoinette; cherished grandchildren, Kevin, Brian, Jason, Colin, Ian, Lindsay, Olivia and Christopher; caring siblings, Mary Beth Harrell and her husband, Robert and Samantha Hemmerich; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will begin on Saturday, April 15 at 8:30 a.m. at Shook’s Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove. Funeral Mass will follow at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Cedar Grove, N.J. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be on Friday, April 14 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memories and condolences may be shared at shookscedargrove.com.
