Obituary for John Joseph O'Neill

It is with deep sadness we announce that John Joseph O'Neill, born on March 19, 1945 passed away after suffering an illness on February 19, 2023.

John was born in Newark, New Jersey at Newark Presbyterian Hospital to Francis Joseph and Anna Elizabeth (Ford) O'Neill. John grew up in East Orange, NJ and graduated from East Orange High School in 1964. He joined the Military and attended The United States Army Training Center Infantry at Fort Dix, NJ in October following graduation from High School. His service included a year and a half duty in North Africa stationed with an Army Communication Facility. After honorable discharge from the United States Army, he worked for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad. John loved the Arts and Literature. He was an avid fisherman and lover of nature.

Predeceased by his parents and siblings, Peter and Thomas O'Neill and Sheila O’Neill Tierney, he survived by his siblings, Margaret O’Neill Russo and her husband, Thomas of Wayne, NJ, Anne O’Neill Natusch and her husband, William of Little Falls, NJ and Mary O’Neill McCoy and her husband Joseph of Totowa, NJ; sisters-in-law, Nancy O'Neill of Brooklyn, NY, Elaine O’Neill of W. Orange, NJ; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Mass with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 9:30 am at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, 31 Pompton Avenue, Pompton Lakes, NJ 07442.
