Conrad Calabrese, 98, longtime resident of Cedar Grove, New Jersey passed away on Thursday February 23, 2023. Born in Newark, Conrad graduated from Newark Central High School in 1943. He served in World War II from 1943 to 1945 in the Army Air Corp, as a gunner in a light Bomber squadron attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon returning home, he entered college where he obtained a BS from Seton Hall University in 1948. Conrad had over a forty-year career in the steel industry in Sales, retiring from Faitoute Steel Company after 26 years of service. Conrad was an avid tennis player, ice skater and golfer. He was a longtime member of the East Orange Tennis Club with his beloved wife Angela. He was also a season ticket holder for the New York Giants since 1958 and the New York Jets since 1964 spending many Sundays at the games with his wife Angela and their two children Kim and Mark. Conrad truly cherished his family above all, spending much time with his children, nieces and nephews and grandchildren.
Conrad was the loving husband of Angela Calabrese (deceased) for 68 years, devoted father of Kim DeSisto (Paul, Lt. Col. USAF, (Ret.)) and Mark Calabrese (Anne), doting grandfather of Cara and Tia DeSisto, David and Thomas Calabrese, caring brother of Neil Calabrese (Marie) (both deceased), Rose Vazzano (Al) (both deceased), caring brother-in-law of Raphaele C. Perlov (Robert I.) (both deceased) and Olivia C. Canarelli (Albert J. deceased), proud uncle of Anthony Vazzano (Joyce), Patricia Maraviglia (Dave), Alan Vazzano (Denise), Sandra Mauriello (Joe) and Candy Crescibene (Gene), Christopher A. Canarelli, and Elaine Perlov (Jeff Buddle). Conrad was pre-deceased by his parents Andy and Bridget.
Conrad will be remembered for his devotion to family, generosity, wisdom, intelligence and humor. At his request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Cedar Grove Ambulance and Rescue Squad, 651 Pompton Avenue, PO Box 81, Cedar Grove, NJ 07009.
