Obituary for Barbara A. Schickram (Metcalfe)
Barbara A. Schickram, 85, of Cedar Grove, N.J., passed away on January 21, 2023 with her children by her side. Visitation will be on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 4-8 p.m. at Shook’s Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove. Services begin on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. The Funeral Service will be at The First Presbyterian Church of Verona at 11 a.m., with private cremation following at Rosedale Crematory, Montclair, N.J. Please wear something in purple, Barbara's favorite color.

Born in Newark and raised in Belleville, N.J., Barbara was a long-time resident of Cedar Grove. She was an educator, serving as a first grade teacher with the Bloomfield Public Schools before becoming the director of the Verona Presbyterian Church’s Preschool and Nursery for 26 years. She also worked in St. Barnabas Medical Center's cytology laboratories for many years.
Barbara cherished her summers at the Cedar Grove Community Pool with friends. She was a member of the Cedar Grove Elks Lodge #2237, a devoted parishioner of the Verona Presbyterian Church, and a proud volunteer for countless community service groups, including the Girl Scouts of America and the Cedar Grove Education Foundation.
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Walter M. Schickram, she is survived by her children, Darlene Schickram (JoAnn Barton), Patricia Costantino, and Michael Schickram; grandchildren, Brandon, Bryan, and Kyra; and brother, Robert Metcalfe (Cathy). Above all, the best job title she had was mother, grandmother and “mother” to many. Barbara is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
